WHAT WE DO
The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) believes the Bible is for all Nigerians. Traditionally, the work of the BSN is to make the Bible available and affordable.
The Society has come to see that provision of the printed text, however well-presented, is only a part of the task. To achieve the most effective and meaningful distribution, the BSN also recognizes the need to develop programmes, using all forms of media to stimulate and facilitate encounter with the biblical text in Churches and public places.
We actualize our mission through five major functions, namely: Translation, Publishing, Distribution, Programmes and Fundraising.
Translation
The goal of The Bible Society of Nigeria is to translate the Bible into all major Nigerian languages. Nigeria has over 500 languages. We now have the complete Bible in 27 Nigerian languages, 9 other languages are being translated or revised at the moment. Funds are needed to complete these projects as it costs a minimum of N120,000,000 per project if completed in 8 years.
Publishing
The BSN ensures the widest distribution of Scriptures to every nook and cranny of Nigeria through her wide Area network and depots, strategically located in the six geo-political zones of the country. The Society undertakes free distribution to the poor, needy, prisoners, blind, deaf, etc.

Programmes
To help people interact with the Holy Scriptures, The Society has the following programmes:
- End to End/Faith Comes By Hearing (to reach people in rural communities)
- Secondary School Bible Competition (for youths in Secondary Schools)
- Youth Bible Competition (for youths between ages 15-24)
- Trauma Healing
- Marathon Bible Reading
- You Can Be Their Eye’s
- Bible Quiz Competition for People with Visual Disabilities (PVD)
- HIV/AIDS Pandemic: Conduct, Not Condom
- NYSC Essay Writing Competition/National Symposium
- Nigerian Sign Language Bible for the Deaf, etc.
fundraising
The Society raises funds to support her translations, production and programmes and sustain a level of subsidy on the Scriptures. Part of this fund is also used to make Scriptures available free to prisoners, the blind, deaf and orphanages, as well as old peoples’ homes, among others.
