The event which had former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki in attendance, was convened by the Bible Society of Nigeria in conjunction with the American Bible Society and United Bible Societies Global Fellowship.

The event which had former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki in attendance, was convened by the Bible Society of Nigeria in conjunction with the American Bible Society and United Bible Societies Global Fellowship.
Taking his thesis from recent history, Prof. Osinbajo illustrated how the gospel of Jesus Christ had transformed societies beginning from The Protestant Reformation, where Christians in Europe, America and Asia changed their world by observing the principles of Scripture in their everyday lives. Quoting copiously from the Bible, the Vice-President illustrated the relationship between applying the principles of righteousness and human development. He averred that there were two aspects of the gospel; “one is the gospel which can transform societies just by following the principles and the second and most important part of the gospel is salvation by grace which gives eternal life.”
Earlier in his address, the Vice-President had commended the 56-year-old Bible Society of Nigeria for her consistency towards the publication and translation of the Bible into 26 Nigerian languages with 10 ongoing translations, and for being the first Bible Society in Africa to build a deaf translation centre. He further commended the BSN for effectively supporting the churches in Nigeria through its various outreach programmes for people in the hinterlands and providing Bible resources needed for evangelism.
Tech to the Rescue?
VP Osinbajo calls for the deployment of Technology in Bible Printing and Distribution
Spurred by the obvious gap in Bible distribution and translation in Nigeria, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has called for the deployment of technology to help in fast-tracking Bible printing and distribution in Nigeria. The Vice-President made the call at the International Christian Leadership Summit organized by The Bible Society of Nigeria. Professor Osinbajo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and an ordained pastor, explained that crowdfunding and development of apps could further boost Bible publishing and translation. He expressed worriedness that the Bible has been translated into only a fraction of the Nigerian indigenous languages, while a large majority of Nigerians do not have even a single verse of Scripture translated for them, thus depriving those who do not possess formal education access to the Word of God. He therefore called for partnership with the Bible Society of Nigeria in actively and aggressively finding the resources for the printing and distribution of the Bible in Nigeria.

Let Us Build Bible House Together – Obasanjo
Two-time Nigerian President and former military Head of State, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has called on Nigerians to join hands in building a befitting Bible House for the publication, translation and distribution of the most important book on earth, The Holy Bible, in Nigeria. Chief Obasanjo made the call at the International Christian Leadership Summit in Lagos. Former President Obasanjo who was the Father of the Day at the event, expressed disappointment at the present condition of the office being used by the Bible Society of Nigeria. An ultramodern Bible house, he reasoned, would create an enabling environment for enhanced productivity of the entire elements required for the publication and distribution of The Holy Bible in Nigeria. BIBLE TRUST FUND
CAN calls for the establishment of a Bible Trust Fund
The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Dr. Samson Ayokunle is of the opinion that the time has come for the establishment of a Bible Trust Fund for the effective funding of the work of Bible publication, distribution and translation in Nigeria. Reeling out what seems like the modus operandi of the Fund, Dr. Ayokunle stated that an online account operated by a highly proficient IT personnel should be dedicated to it so that Christians can deposit funds on continuous basis and a mobile Public Relations Officer appointed to sensitize church leaders on the operation of the Fund.
