Equipping Translators for Greater Impact: 2025 Publishing Department Retreat in Focus

The Publishing Department of The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) began 2025 with its annual retreat, a pivotal event aimed at equipping the team with the tools, skills, and inspiration necessary to enhance Bible translation and publishing efforts. The retreat brought together translators and other department members from various states where BSN operates.

The 5-day gathering was a time for bonding and reflection on the achievements and challenges of 2024, and strategic planning sessions within which the 2024 achievements and challenges were appraised to pave the way for improved strategies in 2025.
Key Highlights
Skill Development and Training
The retreat focused on enhancing the department’s technical and operational capacity through: Translation Training, Paratext (Bible translation software) usage, Team Building and IT Training.

Welcoming New Translators
To ensure adequate hands for the Eleme translation project and its timely completion, the 2025 retreat witnessed the introduction of two new translators for the project – Emmanuel Kikaah-Obari Ollornwi and Mbela-Obari Emimi Obe. This significant step reflects our commitment to bringing God’s Word to the Eleme-speaking people of Rivers State, South-South Nigeria, in their heart language, enabling them to experience the transformative power of Scripture.

The Eleme language is the latest addition to BSN’s translation projects. The translators are scheduled for a 2-week intensive training in Lagos on translation principles and Paratext usage, both of which are critical to the success of the Eleme Bible Translation Project

Bible Translation Projects
Ongoing translation projects include the following languages: Eggon, Epie, Ogbia, Izon, Bǝna, Okpe, Urhobo, Edo, and the Nigerian Sign Language. These projects exemplify our commitment to making the Word of God available in the heart languages of Nigerians, enabling them to connect with Scripture on a personal and transformative level.

A Call for Partnership
Your unwavering support has been instrumental in advancing our mission. Romans 10:14-15 reminds us: “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?”

We invite you to partner with us in supporting the Eleme Bible Translation Project and other ongoing projects. Your donation will directly contribute to fulfilling our mission of making God’s Word available to Nigerians in their preferred languages and formats.
