Divinely Victorious: CR Victor School Shines in Bible Battle

“The Lord is my strength and my song; He has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise Him. My father’s God, and I will exalt Him” Exodus 15:2.

The second edition of our Primary Schools Bible Competition (PSBC), which was held on June 30, 2023, at Igbobi College, Yaba, recorded a resounding success. The competition was initiated in 2022 to meet the scriptural needs of primary school pupils in Nigeria and enable them to interact with the Word for the transformation of their lives. This is in obedience to the Word of God in Matthew 19:14, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” At the Bible Society of Nigeria, we believe that one of the ways to bring children closer to God is to encourage them to engage with the Bible and enhance their understanding and knowledge of its teachings.

The competition is open to Primary School pupils in Lagos State for now; we hope to extend it to other States in the future by collaborating with our Areas’ Executives. The competition tests the Biblical knowledge of the participants through various rounds of challenging questions and tasks from one of our Children’s Bibles, My 100 Best-Loved Bible Stories.

Having more schools participate in this year’s edition is a testament that the competition is gaining popularity. Pupils from diverse backgrounds and schools were allowed to showcase their biblical knowledge and compete for the coveted prize. The representatives of the participating schools demonstrated their commitment to promoting scriptural engagement among their peers.

After a highly competitive final round, CR Victor Nursery and Primary School, Ijesha, Surulere, emerged as the winner. The representatives of the school displayed exceptional biblical knowledge, effective teamwork, and composure under pressure. Their outstanding performance throughout the competition earned them the first prize. God’s Glory Abide Nursery and Primary School, Agiliti, Mile 12, Lagos, the winner of the maiden edition, came second while Covenant Child Academy, Lekki, clinched the third position. The winners and all other participating schools from the preliminary stage to the grand finale were generously rewarded with mouthwatering prizes, ranging from tablets, plaques, medals, RSV Bibles, educational items, customised exercise books, school bags, and certificates.

Congratulations to CR Victor Nursery and Primary School, Ijesha, Surulere, on their victory, and kudos to all the participants for their dedication and passion. PSBC represents a significant step toward ensuring that children in Nigeria have access to scriptural resources and opportunities for personal transformation through the Word. We look forward to organising future editions to promote the Bible-reading culture among the younger generations.
