As part of her resolve to ensure that the word of God spreads to every stratum of the Nigerian society, The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) joined the blind in Lagos to celebrate the 2022 International White Cane Safety Day on October 5, 2022.
Selected staff members of the BSN served as volunteer guides during the five-kilometre walk organised by the Nigeria Association for the Blinds (NAB), Lagos State Chapter in commemoration of this year’s International White Cane Safety Day themed: “Together Crossing New Boundaries.”
The walk took off from the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah and terminated at the Catholic Church of Transfiguration, Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos.
Apart from ensuring the safety of the blinds throughout the walk, the BSN also conveyed some of them from Ile-Epo, Abule-Egba to the venue of the celebration and brought them back.
Speaking at the event, the General Secretary/CEO of The Bible Society of Nigeria, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, who was represented by Mr. Christian Ifeanyi, Manager, Finance, said The Society partnered with the NAB to celebrate the annual International White Cane Safety Day as a way of spreading God’s love among the blind.
He added that the special interest the BSN has in the members of the NAB informs why the Society does not only join them to celebrate the event every year but also ensures that they have access to God’s Word in their heart language free of charge and organises Bible quiz to encourage them to interact with the Scriptures. The Society has donated 121 sets of Braille Bible worth over N6,000,000 to the blind across Nigeria as at September 30, 2022.
Barrister Lukman Salami, Chairman, the Nigeria Association of the Blind, Lagos State, lauded the BSN as the only corporate organisation that partnered with the association on the 2022 White Cane Safety Day.
