Bible now in 27 Nigerian languages; 11 more translation projects in steady progress
With the successful dedication of the Okun language Bible a few weeks ago, the number of Bible translated into Nigerian languages comes up to 27, with 11 Bible translation projects underway in Edo, Urhobo, Yungur, Izon, Eggon, Epie, Ogbia, Nigerian Sign Language, Eleme, Okpe and KJV Success Bible in Yoruba.
It is the mission of The Bible Society of Nigeria to make the Holy Bible available and affordable to Nigerians in their preferred languages and formats, helping them engage with the Word of God through life-transforming programmes.
However, with over 500 Nigerian languages being spoken in Nigeria, there is still much work to be done to enable more people have access to the word of God in their lifetime. The Bible Society of Nigeria, thus, calls on well-meaning Nigerian Christians, churches and corporate organisations to support the work of Bible translation into Nigerian languages. “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” Matthew 24:14.
