The Handwritten Bible: A Promise Fulfilled, A Legacy Preserved

The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to integrity, accountability, and the advancement of God’s Kingdom through the successful production of the Handwritten Bible, a remarkable project that stands as a testament to faith, sacrifice, and collective commitment to God’s work.

The production of the Handwritten Bible was born out of the visionary initiative known as WABFOG (Write And Build For Our God), a faith-driven fundraising project launched by The Bible Society of Nigeria in 2019. The initiative was conceived to mobilise support for the acquisition and development of a permanent site for the Society’s New Bible House.

WABFOG provided a unique opportunity for individuals, churches, Christian organisations, corporate bodies, and stakeholders in the Bible cause to participate directly in this historic undertaking by personally writing portions of the Holy Scriptures. Participants contributed financially according to their capacity while preserving God’s Word in their own handwriting, thereby creating a priceless spiritual and historical treasure.

The portions written by participants varied according to their level of sponsorship, ranging from a few verses to entire chapters of the Bible. To encourage wider participation, sponsorship was categorised into four classes:

  • Platinum Category
  • Gold Category
  • Silver Category
  • Bronze Category

One of the major incentives attached to the Platinum Category was BSN’s promise that sponsors in this category would receive a complimentary copy of the Handwritten Bible upon its production.

A Promise Kept

Today, that promise has become a reality. Following the successful completion of the first phase of the New Bible House project, BSN has produced the Handwritten Bible and commenced the distribution of complimentary copies to eligible Platinum sponsors.

The Handwritten Bible is more than just a publication; it is a monument of faith. Every page reflects the dedication, prayers, commitment, and generosity of the men, women, churches, and organisations that chose to partner with BSN in advancing God’s mission.

The publication serves as a lasting reminder that when God’s people unite around a divine vision, extraordinary things become possible. It also reinforces The Bible Society of Nigeria’s reputation as an institution that honours its commitments and values the trust reposed in it by its stakeholders.

As copies continue to be distributed across the country and beyond, recipients have expressed joy and appreciation for seeing their contributions immortalised in this historic document. The Handwritten Bible is expected to inspire future generations and stand as a symbol of collective stewardship towards advancing God’s Word.

More Than a Book: A Testament of Partnership

The Handwritten Bible embodies a unique partnership between BSN and the many stakeholders who believed in the vision of building a permanent home for Bible ministry in Nigeria.

The Journey Continues

While the production of the Handwritten Bible marks a significant milestone, the larger vision remains unfinished.

The first phase of the New Bible House project has been completed, but the second phase, the construction of the main Bible House complex, has yet to commence due to insufficient funding.

The proposed facility is estimated to cost approximately 5 billion and is envisioned as a world-class centre for Bible ministry and Christian engagement in Nigeria.

A Call to Renewed Partnership

The Bible Society of Nigeria therefore calls on individuals, churches, corporate organisations, foundations, philanthropists, and stakeholders in the Bible cause to partner once again in bringing this dream to completion.

The successful delivery of the Handwritten Bible stands as evidence that every contribution made towards God’s work yields tangible results. Just as stakeholders partnered to make the Handwritten Bible a reality, BSN believes that, together, the vision of a completed New Bible House can also be achieved.

As Scripture reminds us, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain” (Psalm 127:1). With God’s help and the continued support of faithful partners, the New Bible House will rise as a beacon of hope, faith, and commitment to the Word of God.

Together, let us continue to write, build, and advance the Kingdom of God.
