The residents of Maraban Rido and Juji Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camps in Kaduna, Kaduna State, have commended The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) for distributing relief materials and Bibles to them.

 BSN donated relief materials, copies of the Bible, and back-to-school packs worth ₦21.3 million to the people in the camps. A total of 1,305 households received food items, their children received back-to-school packs, and others who could read received 3,505 copies of the Bible.

In a letter signed on their behalf by the Camp Commandant, Comrade Adams Sule, the residents said that BSN’s act of kindness brought them relief, comfort, and hope. The letter reads in part:

“We, the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Maraban Rido and Juji communities in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, wish to sincerely express our heartfelt gratitude to The Bible Society of Nigeria for your generous donation of food and non-food items, including Holy Bibles, clothing, and other relief materials to our camps.

“Your act of kindness has brought great relief, comfort, and renewed hope to our people who have faced difficult circumstances due to displacement. The spiritual and material support you provided has not only met our physical needs but has also strengthened our faith and trust in God.

“We deeply appreciate your love, compassion, and commitment to humanity. May the Almighty God continue to bless, guide, and increase The Bible Society of Nigeria in all your good works.”

The traditional ruler of the community, Dajkachi Auta Ganyi, during a courtesy visit before the distribution of the items, thanked BSN for their support, adding that no organisation had ever done anything of such magnitude. According to him, the gesture by BSN was the first of its kind.

The donation was made through the BSN Macedonian Call project to support the less privileged. Mr. Laniru Dare, Area Development Officer of BSN Kaduna Area, who represented the organisation, explained that BSN does not only cater for the spiritual needs of Nigerians by making the Bible available and affordable but also for their physical needs.  He reassured them that even amid their pain, God still loves and cares for them.

 The Bible Society of Nigeria initiated the Macedonian Call project in 2018 to reach out to the less privileged in several communities across the country, especially those in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps and those living in slums. Through the project, The Society has previously donated items to IDP Camps and slum areas in different parts of the country, including Adamawa, Lagos, Benue, Edo, Kogi States, Abuja, and other locations, where over 50, 000 people have benefited.
