2025 Marathon Bible Reading Ignites Passion for God’s Word Across Nigeria
Reviving the Reading Culture Through God’s Word
The 2025 edition of the Marathon Bible Reading (MBR), held between August 25 and 29, 2025, recorded a remarkable impact across 21 Areas of The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN). This annual spiritual exercise, designed to resuscitate the dwindling reading culture in Nigeria—especially the reading of the Word of God—once again proved its relevance, as thousands of participants gathered at various centres to read, listen, and be transformed by the Scriptures.
The MBR provides a unique platform where participants not only read the Bible but also enjoy the fellowship of continuous public reading. It offers individuals the opportunity to experience the Word of God in a refreshing way, while also helping others hear God’s Word read aloud with passion and conviction.
A Gathering of All People Across the nation, readers from diverse backgrounds and denominations thronged the centres in their numbers. Among them were children, teenagers, adults, and even members of royal families. In a beautiful demonstration of inclusivity, people with disabilities also took an active part—the blind read fluently from the Braille Bible, while members of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) joined in with joy.
For the very first time in the history of the programme, the Catholic Church participated in the Borno/Yobe Area, marking a significant milestone in Christian unity and collaboration.
The Word in Many Tongues and Formats
Participants read the Scriptures in their preferred languages and formats, including Yoruba, Hausa, Nupe, English, and Braille, ensuring that everyone could connect deeply with God’s Word. Some readers, consumed by an overwhelming love for the Scriptures, read as many as 50 chapters in one sitting.
Milestones and Record-Breaking Feats
The MBR also produced historic achievements this year. Three centres successfully completed the reading of the entire Bible. The Kwara Area went a step further by completing the Bible twice, while the Kaduna and Plateau Areas achieved a full Bible reading as early as the fourth day of the programme.
These milestones not only reflect the zeal of the participants but also the power of God’s Word to captivate hearts and sustain dedication.
Transforming Lives Through Scripture
Through initiatives like the MBR, The Bible Society of Nigeria continues to pursue its divine mandate of making the Bible available to Nigerians in languages and formats they understand, while also encouraging life transformation through Scripture engagement. Many participants testified that their lives were positively impacted, their faith deepened, and their hunger for God’s Word renewed.
The 2025 MBR has once again reaffirmed that the Bible, when read and shared together, remains a powerful instrument for personal transformation and national renewal.
