It was an outburst of powerful emotions when the delegation of The Bible Society of Nigeria stormed the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp at Wuro-Jabbe in Adamawa State last month. The crew also visited Kuromagiji, Kuje, New Kuchingoro, and Durumi Area One camps in Abuja, FCT.
The visit by The BSN was in response to the immediate needs of the people, who had been displaced from their original abodes by various crises ranging from terrorism, communal conflicts, arson, banditry, insurgency, etc. Most of the inhabitants of the camps could not hide their joy and excitement upon sighting the relief materials the Society brought for them. In fact, at the Karomagiji camp in the FCT, there was near pandemonium as the people could not wait for the commencement of the distribution of the gifts which comprised bags of rice, beverages, clothes, toiletries, back-to-school packs, exercise books, and of course, The Bible!
The outreach is in line with the BSN’s mission of making the Holy Bible available and affordable to Nigerians in their preferred languages and format and helping them engage with the Word of God through life-transforming programmes. The Macedonian Call Project is christened after the vision of the Apostle Paul as recorded in Acts 16:9, “During the night, Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and pleading with him, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’” The Bible Society of Nigeria, thus, envisions men in dire need and desperately calling for help from the Society, and indeed other Christians of like minds, and have therefore harnessed its resources together to offer succor to these people in their time of need.
