Bible Society commences Bible translation into Okpe
In line with her mission to make the word of God available in different languages and formats, The Bible Society of Nigeria has commenced Bible translation into the Okpe Language.
Three translators – Pastor Lucky Afure, Reverend Eunice Ahweyevu and Mrs. Jerries Ambrose – have already been recruited for the work and are currently taking part in a capacity building exercise in Lagos. Okpe is a language spoken in Delta State.
According to one of the translators, Reverend Eunice Ahweyevu, the people of Okpe community are excited and already looking forward to the Bible. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project was signed at Okpe on March 21, 2022, between The Bible Society of Nigeria and the Okpe Christian Assembly, the umbrella body championing the cause of the Okpe Bible translation project.
It costs a minimum of ₦120m to compete a Bible translation project if achieved in eight years. Some of the ongoing Bible translation projects are the Nigerian Sign Language Bible, Ogbia, Epie, Edo Bible Revision, Eggon, Izon, Yungur, and Urhobo
