OUR PROJECTS YOU CAN IDENTIFY WITH

The Bible Society of Nigeria has the mandate to meet the scriptural need of every Nigerian and also help people interact with the Word of God. In order to fulfill the later part of this mandate, certain projects are being carried out by the society. Prominent amongst these projects are:

HIV/AIDS Pandemic: Conduct Not Condom

This project is aimed at correcting the wrong notion that the use of condom will help check the spread of HIV/AIDS that is ravaging the nation. Bible Society of Nigeria has commenced this enlightenment campaign project that would run for four (4) years. We believe that only responsible behaviour [abstinence and mutual fidelity and not condom] is the only solution to the elusive cure to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. There are three books titled; Where is the Good Samaritan today? Living in Hope and Take Charge translated into Igbo, Hausa & Yoruba which the Society is distributing FREE OF CHARGE to the general public as part of the campaign.

SACRIFICING THE FAMILY LUNCH

This is a soul touching project aimed at raising funds through making little sacrifice of forfeiting our family lunch once in a month for the soul of others. It is difficult to understand what it means to be blind when one can see.  One may not appreciate what it means to be hungry if one can pay the price of one’s meals.  There are people who cannot afford a meal a day not to talk of paying for a copy of the Bible. This project is therefore targeted at the less privileged (visually impaired, street urchins, aged ones, inmates rehabilitation homes, etc.).  The fund raised will be used to provide Bibles free for the beneficiaries. The conservative cost of a family lunch of six at a fast food restaurant is about N4, 200.00 at a sitting .It is N50, 400 if multiplied by 12 months and N201, 600 if multiplied by four years.

You cannot measure the joy and blessing you will impart to the lives of those that will benefit from this Project.  Ahmed, a blind Muslim boy benefited from our free Braille Bible and said, ..”I have always been touched by Christian love.  A Christian family enrolled me in school.  Now The Bible Society of Nigeria gave me the Word of God”.  Though I was born blind, now I can see.  I can see God’s love in Christ Jesus.  I accept Him and when he comes, I shall be like Him”

YOU CAN MAKE GOD SPEAK A LANGUAGE

Communicating with people in their mother tongues has its uniqueness.  When people hear God speaking to them in their native languages, it reveals the love of God in a more unique way.  The Bible Society of Nigeria is saddled with the responsibility of making God speak to people in their mother tongues.  We have about 505 languages in Nigeria.  We have succeeded in translating the Bible into 19 Nigerian Languages, 60 New Testaments and one book of the Bible or another in 98 languages.

With the advent of computer, it takes a minimum of 12 years to complete a language translation and it costs about N30, 000,000.00 to do this. There are other administrative costs.  Some projects in the past took us more than 28 years to complete. Do you know that you can make the difference through your little contribution by making God speak any of these languages Ebira, Igala, Efik, Idoma, Kalabari, Bura, Okrika, Eleme, Isoko, Tiv and Igede through translation?
