YOUTH PROGRAMMES

BIBLE COMPETITION
Our major objective for these competitions is to encourage the youths within the age of 15 – 24 to study the word of God through competitive programmes for in-school and out of school youths.
Our in- school Bible Competition is tagged Secondary School Bible Competition. This year’s edition comes up November 2010. The out of school Bible Competition begins from the month of March till September this year starting from Auxiliary to National level. The book we are studying this year is Isaiah.
Free Bibles are distributed to the participants and Bible portions to the audience during these programmes who are predominantly young people. This programme is open for sponsorship. CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATION

BSN joins the children all over the world to celebrate the Children’s Day. This celebration holds 27th May every year. Talks, seminars, dramas and games are organized at the area levels for the celebration every year.

NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE CORPS COMPETITION

This is a proposed programme for the corps members. This programme involves writing long essays at Area level while at the successful candidates will speak on the topics they wrote on at a symposium at the National level. It will be extended to the corps members all over the nation. This is where social, political, economic problems will be solved using the scriptures.
BSN sees that the society needs the scriptures for transformation and godly youths are the tools to be used. The corps members are strategic tools because they are just going out into the world and so they can make a change. This programme is open for sponsorship. OTHER PROGRAMMES


LITERACY PROGRAMME
  • Literacy workshop: this workshop is being held for teachers and Church leaders who are interested in seeing the spiritual, social, economical and educational growth of their members. It will help Churches to maintain a lively literacy programme.
  • Primer construction: This is being done to provide books/ reader’s portions for the learners in literacy classes.

MISSION ASSISTED PROGRAMME – FCBH

The objective is to make the scripture accessible as a place of life enhancing and life transforming encounter to the people in the rural areas of Nigeria through the New Testament cassettes produced in more than thirty five languages in Nigeria. (Hausa, Fulfulde, Kanuri, Yoruba, Igbo, etc.)
This project aims at reaching the rural dwellers with audio Scriptures in these languages in line with our mission objective. The target groups are farmers, children, women, people of faith, people without scriptures and people who cannot read.
With this programme, the gospel is being preached through listening centres or any other way that is appropriate for the implementers to enable the target groups receive gospel.

HIV/AIDS ADVOCACY PROGRAMME

THE programme is to empower Churches and Christian Confessions, youth leaders, to deliver HIV/AIDS intervention programme to about 50, 000 people in the south-south zone of Nigeria. The Bible Society intends to partner with churches and Christian Confessions in order to address the various important issues related to HIV/ AIDS: change the perspective of the Christian community towards the disease and all those who are affected by it, encourage the church leaders to develop HIV/AIDS intervention programme in their churches and change their behavior pattern among the most vulnerable groups. It will also help combat the sexual pressure and the spread of the disease.      
            
BIBLE READING MARATHON
The objective of this programme is to encourage Christians to enjoy reading the Bible for spiritual growth. Bible reading marathon which was introduced in year 2003 is held in the month of September for one week. During this programme, Christians are encouraged to come and read the Bible in their mother tongues.
This programme has helped positively, the Bible reading culture of the Christians in our community 2010 edition shall be held in many Churches in Lagos.
